The Cardiovascular and Metabolic Disease Area (CVM) within Novartis Biomedical Research (BR) is committed to discovering transformative medicines to treat cardiovascular and metabolic disorders.

We are seeking a highly motivated Molecular Biologist to join our Biochemistry team. You will help us advance our understanding of disease biology and the discovery of new drugs, by contributing to target validation, assay development and drug screening efforts throughout the disease area and in collaboration with the larger research organization.

This position will be located at Cambridge, MA and will not have the ability to be located remote

About the Role

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, develop and perform biochemical and cell-based assays in support of target validation for drug discovery projects.
  • Support in vivo pharmacology studies by developing biochemical assays and performing analysis.
  • Conduct data analyses and documentation of experiments.
  • Collaborate effectively while working in a matrixed environment.
  • Engage in good laboratory practice, including data recording and documentation.
  • Present results in laboratory and department meetings.
  • Mentor and support junior scientists.
  • Author research documents and publications.

Role Requirements:

A PhD in any field of biology with at least 2+ years of molecular & cell biology experience in an academic or industry setting; alternatively, BS/MS degree with 5+ years of relevant industry experience.

  • Hands-on experience with cellular and molecular biology methods, e.g., mammalian cell culture; transfection, molecular cloning; qPCR, FACS, CRISPR-CAS9 gene editing.
  • Knowledge/experience with developing and executing in vitro biochemical and cell-based assays for drug discovery.
  • Experience with design of transgenic mouse models using CRISPR-Cas9 technology would be a plus.
  • Flexibility and aptitude for learning, with the ability to quickly grasp new techniques and apply them to your work.
  • Experience in generation, analysis, and presentation of scientific data.
  • Creative problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team-oriented environment. 

The salary for this position is expected to range between Principal Scientist I: $103,600- $192,400/year | Principal Scientist II: $114.100-$211,900/year

The final salary offered is determined based on factors like, but not limited to, relevant skills and experience, and upon joining Novartis will be reviewed periodically. Novartis may change the published salary range based on company and market factors.

Your compensation will include a performance-based cash incentive and, depending on the level of the role, eligibility to be considered for annual equity awards.
